One of snowmobile racings most talented designers, builders, and drivers, Steve Thorson's
career followed a steady upward path beginning as a young independent in 1969, racing Arctic
Cats at events near his home in Fergus Falls, Minnesota. An obvious
talent, Thorsen became a mainstay of the famous Team Frustration in the early 1970's aboard Super Stock Mercurys and
Polaris.. Selected by Bob Eastman as a last minute replacement on the Polaris factory team in 1977, Thorsen adjusted quickly to the pro circuit and became the second driver to win back-to-back World Championships at Eagle River, racing and winning 1977 and 1978 on sleds he built to match his personal racing philosophy. Joining the newly-formed Scorpion team in 1978, Thorsen helped design and build the impressive aero Scorpions, a design he drove to forty-five feature wins in a single season, including eleven straight pro victories. Retiring from active racing in 1980, Thorsen went on to build several winning racers for other drivers, machines that won several high-point titles and races like the famous SOO I-500. |
