A professional snowmobile racing original, Charlie Lofton was the fist among the ranks of professional snowmobile drivers to emerge as a spokesman and racing personality. A natural with people and with the media, Lofton was the unofficial captain and main team spokesman for Team Arctic for most of the factory pro racing era.

A force in big engine racing classes for Arctic Cat throughout his career, Lofton scored major wins at Eagle River, Duluth, Lake Tahoe, Ironwood, and others including the Rhinelander Hodag 50 and Sno-Pro II in 1973, and the legendary 40/40 enduro at Milwaukee in 1974.

While his oval racing record as a Team Arctic professional is impressive, Charlie will also be always remembered for his exploits aboard the Arctic Cat speed sleds Boss Catt II and III in the mid-1970’s. Piloting the V-8 powered Boss II and the multi-engine Boss III, Charlie set several snowmobile speed records that stood for years, some even into the late 1980’s. Lofton remained involved in snowmobile racing, winning a masters class snocross title in the year of his death. We lost Charlie in an airplane accident while crop dusting on July 2nd, 1989, at the age of 43.
