The 28th Annual RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS sponsored by Modine HotDawg Garage Heaters, was a huge success dispite the poor snow conditions. A record number attended the Feb. 19 th annual ride event and fundraiser for the SHOF. The Vintage Challenge group had another succesful day with 16 vintage riders getting their completion certificates at the banquet. The Vintage Challenge was headed up by Joe Rainville of Caledonia, New York. Bob Anderson of Racine, WI was the overall Trail Boss. Joe also had the distinction of receiving the annual First Out Award when his track blew on his John Deere about 8 miles into his ride. This award is named after Jon Carlson of Moorsville, NC, the founder of the Challenge and the first to breakdown on the first challenge ride. A new 5th rider group was made up of all women and this group was headed up by Joann Krueger of River Falls, WI. Keith Warning also guided a smaller and shorter vintage rider group. A great day was had by all.
Hearing the interesting stories of the four inductees was interesting as these heros of our sport were inducted into the Hall of Fame. This years inductees represented race drivers, event sponsors, manufacturers and industry support catagories. Four are inducted each year. The process is explained on the SHOF web site at the bottom of the INDUCTEE page. Nominations are due by June 30 each year. Eighty six inductees are now enshrined in the HOF.
The SHOF's next event is the CLASSIC SLED ROUNDUP By Arctic Cat, our show a swap in the park, Sunday, May 29, 2011. Make your reservations now !

27th annual RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS by Modine HotDawg Garage Heaters a huge success.
Over 100 riders enjoyed the daylong ride. Two vintage groups and two late model groups. The Vintage Challenge had over 40 riders........most made it back under their own power and received their completion certificates at the banquet. Our 2010 inductees were great but Jimmie Dimmerman stole the show with his speech starting out with his first sled and his childhood stories........ending as a factory driver. |

2009 RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS
26TH ANNUAL RIDE WITH THE CHAMPS by Modine HotDawg Garage Heaters was a huge success. Some one hundred riders gathered for this historic event and fund raiser for the SHOF. The Vintage Challange group had some 30 riders !
Old John Deeres, Cats and Polaris sleds attempted to make the 175 mile trip to the U P for lunch at Fish Tales on Lake Goegibic. Jon Carson and Brian Nelson of Team Enduro Deere fame, guided the die-hard vintage riders on their 30 year old iron. More photos and stories to come !
They all made it back to the evening banquet for the Induction Ceremonies......some on trailers, some in pickups and some behind tow ropes.......however most made the entire 175 trip on their old sleds. This is what great memories are made of. |
