AUDREY DECKER

Attracted to snowmobiling in the late 1960’s as the first of her four sons reached his teenage years, Audrey Decker quickly made snowmobile racing a way of life as her family began what became a snowmobile racing dynasty stretching over more than two decades of very successful snowmobile competition.

Always on Ski-Doo snowmobiles, Audrey first raced against men and then with women as female classes emerged, she went on to become a power in “powder puff” racing, winning the World’s Women’s Championship title in 1971. Decker was the fist woman to win a feature race at Eagle River and was awarded the #1 bib in USSA racing for women in 1975-76.

In addition to assisting her husband, Richard, and four sons in their individual snowmobile racing careers in the 1970’s and 1980’s, Audrey Decker continued to compete throughout the 1970’s, racing with women when offered and with the men when no female competition was available. At her last race in Montreal, Quebec in 1982, she won Amateur 440 to put a fitting close to a career that started with a win in Coon Rapids, Minnesota, a dozen years earlier.
