A speed run competition icon known throughout the sport for his many accomplishments in high-speed snowmobile performance, Marv Jorgenson of Minneapolis, Minnesota was attracted to snowmobiling in the early 1970’s by the huge potential he sensed in the still young sport for innovation and performance development. A former auto racer with an unbridled love of speed for speed’s sake, Jorgenson participated in many of the early informal speed run events held on ice-covered lakes in the Midwest, helping this form of racing to evolve and grow.

As the snowmobile speed run form of competition developed, so did Jorgenson’s understanding of what it takes to go fast on a track-driven vehicle. Building several motorcycle powered speedsters, many using nitrous oxide injection, Marv carved a notch in the sport when his Kawasaki powered turbo sled went 142.6 MPH in Rice Lake, Wisconsin, setting a new absolute speed record for snowmobiles. Always competing as an independent, Marv set a standard that attracted many other talented builders and helped create the many speed run circuits of the 70’s, 80’s and early 90’s.

Known for his unique “Jaws” multi-engine speed record sleds, Jorgenson set the all-time snowmobile speed record of 190.308 in 1989 aboard his Mercury multi-engined Jaws III in International Falls, Minnesota, a record that still stands today. The holder of five speed record championships and many driver of the year titles, Marv Jorgensen represents the pinnacle of high speed snowmobile performance.
